Buster Crabbe did three serials as Flash Gordon in the 1930's. All of them are readily available on dvd. Somewhat harder to get hold of is his stint as Buck Rogers, some four decades before Gil Gerard took on the lead in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Apparently "reversing polarity" isn't a techno babble term invented by Jon Pertwee after all.
