Mushroom Chapter

A couple of years ago after having given up on my old electropop/futurepop project Radical Tea Party (a name chosen way before the rise of the movement, and really just referring to the band members as a bunch of lazy sods who liked to drink tea and talk about the problems of the world, without ever really doing anything about it) I felt I needed a more melodic output for my music making, that had by then started to delve in to the less song oriented structures I mostly aim for today.

Anyway, born was Mushroom Chapter. The influences were obviously leaning towards the kind of industrial electronics produced by Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly and others of the same ilk, music that had managed to keep me interested since I first came in to contact with it in the late eighties. Inspiration struck and I quickly recorded seven tracks. Then I kind of forgot about it until a year later, when I recorded two more tracks and found myself with an albums worth of material. Why it took me until now to publish it on bandcamp I don't really know. But now "Brethren of the Fungi" is available to stream for free or download for pay what you want (including free):

Front Line Assembly

Jag bangade FLA-spelningen i Stockholm för någon vecka sedan. Kände att jag hade sett dem tillräckligt många gånger redan och att de bara blivit sämre för var gång. Spelningen på Caustic Grip-turnén på Stadt Hamburg i Malmö var svårslagen. Det faktum att bara Bill Leeb är kvar och att alla andra medlemmar är ungefär tio år yngre än jag själv bidrog nog också till att det inte var svårt att missa dem.

Men nu sitter jag och lyssnar igenom gamla vinyplattor efter att ha flyttat in min skivspelare i arbetsrummet (i vardagsrummet står TV.n och den har man inte alltför stor tillgång till nu för tiden). Lade precis på FLA:s Gashed Senses & Crossfire och kan bara nostalgiskt konstatera att det var bättre förr, i alla fall när det gäller Leeb och co. Till skillnad från t.ex. Skinny Puppy så har FLA aldrigt lyckats förnya sig. De har haft sin stil och kört den och nöjt sig med att uppdatera ljudbilden genom att hänga med i den tekniska utvecklingen. Därför lyssnar jag hellre på deras plattor fram till och med Tactical Neural Implant, där de hade tagit sin stil så långt det gick utan att bli parodisk, och låter bli nyare alster. Men de gamla plattorna plockar jag gärna fram.
