New old EP by Kradak

Last summer I spent some time at the house were I grew up in the south of Sweden, shortly before my parents sold it. During those weeks I recorded a couple of tracks late at night using Reason, the DSI Mopho and the Korg Monotron. Four of those tracks formed a kind of EP and had a common dubbed out feel to them. I wasn't quite sure in which of my projects they fitted in, and then I forgot all about them.

When I rediscovered them recently I thought they stood up quite well as a self contained mini-album, and I thought I could hear the kind of brooding feeling that leaving that house for the last time left me with. I felt I could hear traces of what that place meant to me in the music. It's really quite a private sense, but I feel they stand up well enough as a work. It's not in any way the work I'm most satisfied with or most proud of, but I thought the tracks deserved some kind of release and felt they fitted in with my current Kradak project, even if they're much less industrial than that project was supposed to be. The "Dubbed Monologues" is available as a free download on Bandcamp. And yes, that's a picture the back garden of the house on the cover.

Bon Harris on Reason

Stumbled on this old video of Bon Harris showing how he uses Reason in his productions. Apparently he used it quite a bit on Industrial Complex.

Korg Polysix för Reason

Korg släpper sin första Rack Extension. En version av deras Polysix-emulering blev det. Hoppas att fler av deras mjukvaru-syntar är på gång. MS-20 känns som den uppenbara efterföljaren. Läs mer hos Korg. Eller gå till Propellerheads och skaffa dig ett ex.

Propellerhead Figure for iOS announced

It appears Propellerhead indeed had a version of Reason for iOS up their sleeve. According to Synthtopia they will release, Figure, an iOS app based on Reason technology, shortly. It will debut for just one dollar. Propellerhead will also be opening up Reason for third party developer plugins. Apparently Korg is among the first batch of developers bringing out Rack Extensions for Reason.

Great news from Frankfurt already, then. Tomorrow the big fair opens up officially, let's hope there's more interesting news coming.

Frankfurt Musik Messe Propellerhead rumour

Been a while since my latest blog post. For a little while from now on my blog posts will be in English, since I'm not at a keyboard with Swedish letters for the moment.

So let's start with an interesting teaser for next weeks Musik Messe in Frankfurt. Propellerheads have announced that they will announce (yeah, quite a bit of announcing from them all at once) some tech news at a special event at the Messe. Wonder what it could be. Hoping for an iOS version of Reason or ReCycle or something along those lines. An update to Reason seems way too early. Or will it be some new hardware interface/controller/soundcard-thingy?

Propellerheads och Apple

Propellerheads släpper version 6 av Reason i slutet av september, ett knappt år efter att 5:an kom. Man passar också på att integrera Record i Reason och gå över till 64-bitarsversioner av programmet. För tidigare användare av Reason och Record är nyheterna tämligen få, tre nya effektprocessorer får man nöja sig med. Trist, men för 99 euro skulle jag nog ha uppdaterat ändå, om det inte vore för en sak. För att uppdatera måste jag nämligen först byta upp min mac till en som stöder OSX 5. För Windows-användare erbjuder man stöd hela vägen tillbaka till XP, service pack 3, ett system som funnits långt längre än mitt OSX 4. Är inte helt förvånad med tanke på att Apple själva inte stöder OSX 4 för sina iPhones och iPadar, men hade ändå av någon anledning väntat mig mer av Propellerheads, som jag alltid tyckt haft en vettig uppgrade-policy och erbjudit mycket nytt i varje släpp. Den här gången känns det dock betydligt slöare och tråkigare än vad man vant sig vid.

Propellerheads Kong

Jag kastade mig som vanligt över den senaste Reason uppdateringen då den kom i slutet på sommaren. Men eftersom jag lagt mest tid på hårdvaruprylar på sistone har jag inte riktigt grävt ner mig i den nya funktionerna. Efter att ha lekt lite med min SP-808 de senaste veckorna blev jag sugen på bli lite mer bekväm med Kong och de nya samplingsfunktionerna i Reason. För hur kul Kong och den nya autotunefunktionen är så är det trots allt direktsamplingen som är den stora nyheten. Äntligen finns den där direktheten som fanns hos hårdvarusamplers i Reason. Så jag hade några roliga timmar i eftermiddags tillsammans med Kong och samplingsfunktionen.
